The Federal SBIR/STTR programs are the largest source of early-stage technology financing in the United States and a critical source of funding for Illinois startup ecosystem. Typically the SBIR/STTR program is renewed every 5 years without issue, except for this year. The current legislation is set to expire on September 30, 2022 – something that would cause great disruption to the grantees already awarded and those pending research funding, as well as to the agencies providing the funding.

The SBIR/STTR program is an essential part of America’s innovative high-tech ecosystem, and even the threat of a short-term disruption of these programs could have a severe effect on R&D-focused small businesses. Both small businesses and the agencies need certainty, stability, and predictability to budget and plan.

Please sign-on iBIO’s letter encouraging the Illinois Congressional Delegation to renew this essential program.

Sign-on Deadline: August 10, 2022
