Chicago’s life sciences industry, which has been touted by economic development experts as one of the city’s next big business sectors, ranks among the top U.S. cities for job growth in the sector over the last several years, new data shows.

Of the nation’s top 25 life sciences markets, Chicago ranks sixth for job growth in the sector, with the number of jobs growing 31% from 10,000 in 2015 to 13,200 in 2020, according to a talent report from commercial real estate services company CBRE. That’s a higher growth rate than in places like Boston and New York, though both have more than double the total amount of life sciences jobs when compared to Chicago.
