llinois is recognized as a national leader in the life sciences industry, which employs more than 41,000 people across the state. A 2019 report found the overall economic output of the life sciences industry in Illinois was $98 billion, with pharmaceutical research and manufacturing making up about $27.6 billion of that total. The research and development happening in Illinois is critical not just to our state economy, but to patients around the globe who benefit from the incredible breakthroughs that started right here. Unfortunately, the reconciliation bill being considered by the Senate now will change all of that.
