GivingTuesday Campaign to Support iBIO’s STEM Programming for Girls in Underserved Communities

The Illinois Biotechnology Innovation Organization (iBIO), dedicated to inspiring the next generation of innovators and helping restore America’s leadership in technology education, today announced the launch of a special STEM Kit for the holidays to be released on Giving Tuesday. Proceeds from the sale of the STEM Kit will be used to support iBIO’s STEM Programming for high-need, low-income girls in grades 3-8 in Illinois.

Beginning on Giving Tuesday, November 30, and continuing through December 6th, iBIO will offer a special Robotics STEM Kit for purchase. The purchase of each kit will help fund STEM Kits and programs for girls grades 3-8 in underserved communities. Our STEM Kits make perfect holiday gifts and provide hands on STEM activities during the long holiday break.

Giving Tuesday follows shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and is meant to be a day for people to give back to their communities.

iBIO’s Special Giving Tuesday Robotics STEM kit will feature Illinois entrepreneur, Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, Founder and CEO of PSYONIC. PSYONIC is redefining what it means to be human through advances in biointegrated technologies. PSYONIC achieves this not only by making scientific breakthroughs in bionic prosthetic devices, but by also making them accessible to more people than ever before. In the next ten years, PSYONIC expects their devices to seamlessly integrate with the human neuromuscular system.

iBIO launched the STEM Kits program in January and has distributed over 6,000 kits to students in CPS and Metro Chicago to fill the educational gap created by distance learning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each kit is designed to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences for students in grades three through eight, but families with children as young as kindergarteners have told iBIO that they also have enjoyed the hands-on learning activities. Each kit includes all materials needed for a specific activity, printed instructions in English and Spanish, STEM Hero profiles, and a link to an instructional video.

We will have a limited number of STEM Kits available for purchase on November 30th. The purchase price of $60 will support additional STEM Kits and STEM Programming for students in underserved communities. Click here to reserve your STEM Kit or make a donation for Giving Tuesday.
